How many people have gotten infected after receiving the full dosage?Updated: May 21st, 2021
In short – not many.
New research from the CDC (published April 2) showed that Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were 90% effective at preventing infections, similar to earlier results in the UK and Israel. There were 161 infections in the unvaccinated group in the study compared to only 3 in the fully vaccinated group.
Similarly for the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccines, efficacy after 2 shots is between 85%-90% according to new analysis by Public Health England (on 19th May) 2021.
It’s also important to know that you cannot get a COVID-19 infection from a vaccine itself — that’s because there is no COVID-19 component to the vaccines. Watch the video to hear from Dr. Cedric M. Bright about why you can’t get COVID-19 from a vaccine.
The CDC still recommends that even when fully vaccinated, everyone still take steps to protect themselves and others when out in public, like wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet apart from others, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces.
