Why should I wear a mask?Updated: May 21st, 2021
Even though vaccines are rolling out around the world, masks are still really essential in helping control the spread of COVID-19, alongside other tactics like social distancing and washing your hands.
There are lots of reasons why it’s important to be wearing a mask when around other people, including that: masks lessen transmission from people with COVID-19, and they can lessen asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic spread; masks can also protect the person wearing them; and they are also associated with lower death rates.
In the USA, as of 13th May, the CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, MD, announced that “anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physically distancing”. However, if you feel safer, you can continue to wear masks as you please.
In all countries, be sure to check what your national and local guidance is on mask wearing and other safety measures.
